SSIReN is a national network of scholars concerned in national security research from across the social sciences and affiliated disciplines in Australia
The network is conceived as a collaborative hub that brings the intelligence community and relevant scholars together to identify shared research needs and interests. It aims to produce better research collaboration, closer understanding of mutual needs between the two communities and foster research that contributes to Australia’s national interests.

Tim is adjunct Associate Professor of Public Policy at the Centre for Governance and Policy Analysis at the University of Canberra, Co-Convenor of the APSA Policy Studies Research Group, and is the former Secretary-Treasurer of the Australian Political Studies Association.

Dr Mariam Farida is a project officer with Counter Violent Extremism (CVE) programs at Proactive Integrated Support Model (PRISM). Dr Farida has been awarded her PhD in Security Studies and Criminology in 2019. Her research publications include Middle East politics, non-state groups, global security, terrorism, and political violence.

Lee Morgenbesser is a senior lecturer with the School of Government and International Relations at Griffith University and a former recipient of an Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Research Award (2018-2020). His research areas are authoritarian politics, dictators, democratisation, election observation and Southeast Asian politics.

Pam Nilan is an Honorary Professor at the Alfred Deakin Institute in Melbourne, and Conjoint Professor at the University of Newcastle. She specializes in the study of youth, having conducted fieldwork research in Indonesia, Fiji and Australia. She is currently a Chief Investigator on ARCDP200102013 ‘Far Right in Australia: Intellectuals, Masculinity and Citizenship’.

Benjamin Herscovitch is a Research Fellow at the ANU’s School of Regulation and Global Governance, where he focuses on China’s economic statecraft and Australia-China relations. He is a member of the ANU Working Group on Geoeconomics.

Professor David Bright is a criminologist and forensic psychologist. His research interests include criminal networks, organised crime, terrorism, drugs and crime, and desistance from crime. He is an internationally recognised expert in the use of social network analysis and related approaches to study organised criminal groups and terrorist groups.

Dr Russell Brewer is an Associate Professor of Criminology at the University of Adelaide and leads the Digital Youth Research Laboratory. He has a PhD from the Australian National University. His research interests include cybercrime, youth delinquency, crime prevention, and policing.
