Max Harwood

Overview

Dr Max Harwood is a sessional lecturer and adjunct fellow with the Department of Anthropology, and a Senior Policy Officer with the NSW Department of Communities and Justice Countering Violent Extremism program. As an anthropologist, Max specialises in ethnographic filmmaking. His PhD studied Turkish and Israeli masculinity, nationalism and militarism, resulting in both a feature length documentary film and a written dissertation.

Following a six year research stint in Istanbul and Tel Aviv, since 2019 Max has commenced new research on modern Australian white nationalism - specifically the online subculture, politics and phenomenology of Australian white nationalists - as well as the globalised phenomenon of Replacement Theory stochastic terrorism.
