Patrick Walsh

Overview

Associate Professor Patrick Walsh is an internationally recognised researcher and consultant in national security and law enforcement intelligence capability reform issues. His research focuses on governance, leadership, intelligence and ethics, biosecurity, health security and cyber. Prior to becoming an academic he worked as an intelligence analyst in Australian national security and law enforcement agencies.

Nationally Patrick’s research has influenced key historic government intelligence reform agendas such as the 2017 Independent Intelligence Review. He is also asked to regularly review government and intelligence community commissioned reports, such as the 2019 Australian Academy of Social Science report (Social Science Research and Intelligence in Australia).

Internationally, Patrick’s research has resulted in regular invitations to review book projects, journal articles and speak at workshops on biosecurity, bioterrorism, Cyberbiosecurity and health security intelligence. Walsh is currently Vice President (International) for the International Association of Intelligence Education, and formally Vice-President (Admin) for the Australian Institute of Professional Intelligence Officers (AIPIO). He is also Visiting Fellow, in the Department of History, Politics and International Relations, University of Leicester (UK).
