Ramon Spaaij

Overview

Professor Spaaij’s research combines sociological, anthropological and public policy approaches to address questions of social cohesion, conflict and social change. The arc of his research career has been an investigation of how cohesive, resilient and inclusive communities can be created and sustained, and how conflicts that threaten community cohesion can be transformed. His translational research partnerships have produced valuable applied outcomes for government, community and industry. Dr Spaaij is a world-leading expert on terrorists acting alone or in small groups. He is the author of the critically acclaimed books The Age of Lone Wolf Terrorism (Columbia University Press, 2017, with Mark S. Hamm) and Understanding Lone Wolf Terrorism: Global Patterns, Motivation and Prevention (Springer, 2012).
